PIANO TUNING
Piano Tuning - $150
Piano Owner,
Your piano will be singing again with a fresh tuning!
I tune all sizes and makes of pianos. An appointment is scheduled at a convenient time for both parties and a thorough piano tuning and inspection takes me approximately 2.5 hours. You will appreciate the extra care that I give your piano.
I tune pianos aurally, i.e. by ear, starting with a tuning fork. Tuning pianos is an art that is part scientific, part mechanical, and all listening. No piano is exactly like any other and each instrument has it's own unique tonal qualities and characteristics.
As a pianist, performing musician, music educator, piano owner, tuner, and technician, I have discerning ears and leave the piano sounding rich, even, clear, and full. My clients include live music venues, recording studios, schools, churches, professional musicians, students, and more.
If your piano is new or has not been tuned in many years, a pitch raise may be needed. This involves a preliminary rough tuning to bring the piano strings to proper tension followed by a fine tuning. Not every piano needs this, and there is no extra charge if your piano needs a pitch raise.
Mechanical issues with the piano can be assessed during the tuning. Sometimes a sticky key just needs a little attention! Arrangements can be made if more extensive repairs are needed outside the scope of a regular appointment.
How often should my piano be tuned?
It is recommend to have your piano tuned at least once a year. Generally after a year, any piano will benefit from tuning. If it is played a lot, have it tuned more often. A practical suggestion is to have it tuned when it sounds out of tune to you or another musician.
Humidity, temperature fluctuations, and frequent use are the main causes of a piano going out of tune. Generally when humidity goes up or down so does the pitch. These environmental changes affect the tension of the strings and the wood parts leading to shifts in pitch.
